Believe it or not…

Today is International Peace Day…feel free to add to the list:
“Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God” (Christianity)
“Shall I tell you what acts are better than fasting, charity, and prayers? Making peace between enemies are such acts; for enmity and malice tear up the heavenly rewards by the roots” (Islam)
“To the counsellors of peace is joy” (Judaism)
“When a thought of war comes, oppose it by a stronger thought of peace. A thought of hatred must be destroyed by a more powerful thought of love” (Baha’i)
“He heals divisions, and cements friendships; seeking peace, and ensuring it, for in peace is his delight, and his words are ever the words of a peacemaker” (Buddhism)
“The noble minded dedicate themselves to the promotion of peace and happiness of others–even those who injure them” (Hinduism)

Truth in three religions…

With thanks to Jeffrey Moses, author of “Oneness”

Putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbor: for we are members one of another.  (Ephesians 4:25 KJV)

Speak ye every man truth to his neighbor; execute the judgement of truth and peace in your gates. (Zechariah 8:16 KJV)

Do not clothe the truth with falsehood; do not knowingly conceal the truth. (Qur’an 2:39)

Islam, Michele Bachmann and multiple identities…

I couldn’t pass up this opinion piece in the Boston Globe today:

Michele Bachmann’s anti-Muslim paranoia

Thank you Juliette Kayyem for pointing out that one can be a Muslim AND work for the secretary of state of the United States without being questioned about her real intentions!

And here’s something to check out this evening on PBS:

The Light in Her Eyes

I find the brief description (a female Muslim preacher who encourages other women to stick to their faith as well as their own dreams) intriguing and worth exploring.
